EcoClimate Vision São Tomé and Príncipe - A Significant Step Forward: Meeting with Ministério do Ambiente and Minister Nilda Borges da Mata
29th July, 2024, São Tomé and Príncipe- Today marks a momentous occasion for EcoClimate Vision São Tomé and Príncipe led by County Director, Ernaldson Gome, as we had the honor of meeting with the esteemed team from Ministério do Ambiente, led by Minister Nilda Borges da Mata. This meeting was a pivotal opportunity to discuss the future of our environmental efforts and to present the ambitious goals of EcoClimate Vision São Tomé and Príncipe, an initiative dedicated to transforming the environmental landscape of our beautiful nation.
Our discussions delved deep into the pressing environmental challenges that São Tomé and Príncipe faces, and the innovative solutions we aim to implement to address them. We shared our vision for a greener, more sustainable future and explored the various ways in which our initiatives can align with the national agenda for environmental preservation. The exchange of ideas was not only insightful but also incredibly motivating, reinforcing our commitment to making a tangible impact on our environment.
One of the key highlights of our meeting was the presentation of the “Save the Ocean” campaign, an initiative that was launched on July 20, 2024 at Emília Beach. “Save the Ocean”, which is part of our broader effort to protect marine ecosystems and raise awareness about the importance of ocean conservation, aims to clean and preserve the pristine beaches of São Tomé and Príncipe. The project’s focus is on mobilizing the community, especially the youth, to take active roles in environmental stewardship. By involving local schools, community groups, and volunteers, we aim to create a lasting impact that extends beyond the immediate cleanup efforts.
We introduced EcoClimate Vision São Tomé and Príncipe, which is an organization committed to raising awareness about climate change and educating the public on sustainable practices. This initiative is part of the global EcoClimate Vision network, which seeks to foster a deeper understanding of climate issues and promote proactive solutions. Our local branch focuses on creating educational programs, workshops, and community outreach activities that empower individuals to make environmentally friendly choices in their daily lives.
During the meeting, we discussed several future projects aimed at empowering the youth and the broader community in order to engage actively in climate action. One such project involves creating educational materials and interactive workshops that teach young people about climate science, the impacts of climate change, and the importance of sustainability. Another project aims to collaborate with local businesses and industries to promote green practices and reduce carbon footprints.
The response from Minister Nilda Borges da Mata and her team was overwhelmingly positive. They expressed their support for our initiatives and offered valuable insights into how we can enhance our efforts to align with national policies and goals. Their commitment to environmental issues and willingness to collaborate is a testament to the importance of partnership in tackling the global climate crisis.
We are incredibly grateful to Minister Nilda Borges da Mata and the entire team at Ministério do Ambiente for their warm reception and encouragement. This meeting marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful partnership, working together towards a shared vision of a sustainable and resilient São Tomé and Príncipe.
As we move forward, we are more determined than ever to continue our work in environmental education and advocacy. We believe that by empowering individuals with knowledge and resources, we can inspire collective action that leads to meaningful change. Our journey is just beginning, and we are excited to see what the future holds.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to collaborate with Ministério do Ambiente and other partners to create a brighter, more sustainable future for São Tomé and Príncipe. Together, lets make a difference and ensure that our natural heritage is preserved for generations to come.
